There was a reporter on the news just now who filmed his very own home burning down in San Diego.

S. California Fires 2007

I started calling Monday Black Monday because the fires are eating through everything from bushes to houses and leaving a sooty mess in their path. Now it is Tuesday and it is obvious that CA does not have the resources to cover many of the hardest hit areas of Lake Arrowhead, San Diego, or Irvine. They are spread too thin as Santa Ana winds continue to spread embers like a cloth of destruction over the south end of California. There are 10 major fires going right now. I've had my windows closed since Sunday to keep out the ash and smoke. Fire crews have got to be exhausted and frustrated.
The closest fire to me is the Santiago/Irvine fire.
I have a friend in the Agua Dulce area as well. I can only assume she was evacuated on Monday.

Fires

Right now fires are having a field day in southern CA. The closest fire to us would be the Irvine Fire. You can smell the ash in the air. I had to close all the windows to keep the air in here as clean as possible. I've had a sore throat ever since the Santa Ana winds started yesterday. My eyes are dry and they sting.

There is also a fire in Malibu, some in the Inland Empire and 2 in Ventura County. The drought only makes things worse.

The War in Iraq

Dear Mister President, Time to Come Home

The minute I knew Bush was taking us into the war in Iraq my thought was, "He can't possibly be that stupid." My next thought was this was going to take way too long, cost way too much, and end in an ugly way. And so far I'm right in two out of three. I didn't speak up then because I didn't think it would do any good. Also, I knew people couldn't seperate the difference between being anti-war and being anti-American. That is a sad state of affairs. And now that we are in Iraq, there is no graceful exit. We have a President who will never admit he was wrong. He keeps throwing good money after bad, and that is that. We are just supposed to follow him blindly over the cliff like a bunch of lemmings.

I have many blogs on non-threatening things like arts & crafts or gardening, which is all well and good, but sometimes I want to talk about things that are bothering me. Things that are controversial. Things that are not politically correct. Basically I've been a big chicken in stating how I really feel about things, always trying to keep the peace and not stir up trouble.
